More than you would think, I'd say. He has a very sympathetic ear from both Dorna and the MSMA, and is well respected by the riders.
I think the tires are a big problem. They're tricky to warm up, hazardous if you don't get it right, and dictate the style and setup of the bikes to such a degree that they really only work for one manufacturer per year. It's partially the riders' fault, really, because they will always ask for better and better tires, and now they have them, and only the best riders/bikes can do anything with them.
The bit about 2 year old tires is bothersome, though. Not surprising, I guess. I've heard of the same thing in AMA and WSBK. Spec tire rules are not a perfect solution.
