UPS f**ked me today

For you fellow candadians ordering toys from the US...be sure to always ship with USPS and not UPS. UPS charges rediculous amounts for importing things into Canada.

I bought a lap timer from a member here and had to pay $60 when it came to my door

Stick with USPS because it gets transfered to Canada Post which often don't charge, and when they do, it's usually only between $15-30.

Whats the reason for that charge? I know shipping to Canada is a bitch which is why I never do it for joe schmo.

Damn dude, that sucks! But why did they charge you $60, does it have something to do with declaring the value or something of the sort?

I'm looking at my receipt right now. I was taxed about $17 of the value, then their fee for completing the importing documents was $43. Kind of weird when Canada post does it for free most of the time.

Don't really understand why you think you were screwed over in the shipping and duties. The rules are the rules. UPS doesn't make the policy, they just follow it.

Next time request a different shipping method, or ask the shipper to declare a low value for the package.

Yes ups from teh states always has a 60 surcharge which is crazy. Its the same with fedex. If someoen wants to ship ups to me from teh states id rather buy it here and save some cash.

UPS is such bullshit, I have asked the delivery guys why they charge so much compared to all the other companies for shipping to canada and he couldn't give me a single reason. He then proceeded to tell me I'm better off shipping with everyone else especially Canada post whenever possible. DHL isn't bad either, they usually charge me rates similar to Canada Post.

Yeah UPS and FEDex are just following the rules.

USPS is govt owned which means they operate under different rules making it cheaper for them.

It's not UPS's fault they have to charge you that.

Why USPS is still around baffles me. Mail should be a private market enterprise now. I understand it had a purpose long ago but it is unfair to UPS, DHL, FEDex,etc...
