There I am merging onto the 5 South bound on my beast - Ninja250R.
I wack the throttle hitting 50, 60, 70-75mph switching from the far right lane to the far left lane. As traffic starts to bunch up a bit I decide to share/split lanes. Mind you they're still traveling at a good 60-65mph. So, I'm probably doing 70 as I like to be 5mph faster than traffic especially when I'm sharing/splitting lanes. As I commence passing cars between me, about 100 yards before me, if not shorter, the cars in the left lane start to brake hard! I see smoke and cars weaving out of their lanes onto the left shoulder to avoid hitting one another. And that's when it happens: BOOM!!! A cager rearends another, lifts up a good 3 or more feet in the air and lands diagonally in my path.:
I squeeze the front brakes as hard as I can but the bike's not stopping/slowing down fast enough! So, as I brace for impact and hope for the best the car to the left of me stops 3 feet before the car sitting diagonally in my path. I see this in the corner of my right eye and think to myself, "Fak it I'm going for it!" I let off on the brakes and dive right in. I FLICK the bike as fast and hard as I can - RIGHT, LEFT - and avoid hitting both cars within inches!
I can't believe I made it!
I stand on my pegs and do one of these:
And then gave praise to God!
I then started to think how much riding the track has helped me pull this maneuver off. Also not to fixate on objects before me. And riders passing me in the inside corner has helped condition and improve my awareness.
For all that and many more I am thankful.
So glad to still be around.![]()
