    Default R6 Down

First off, noone's hurt, unless you include my poor R6 Rene.

Girlfriend and I took the bike to GameStop, then to BestBuy, earlier this afternoon. Both times we left our helmets on the bike.

After BestBuy, we cruised over to El Parian (cheap mexican restaurant). I parked on the front row, surrounded by empty parking spots, no cars anywhere near me. I decided to take my helmet in this time, as did my gf. We were just about finished eating when the waitress suddenly said, "Oh man, is that your motorcycle out there? Some girl just hit it!"

I stared at her for a second, asked if she was kidding..but no, of course not, no chain yankage. I walk outside to see a girl and a guy, early twenties, standing close to and looking at my bike. Turns out the girl was trying to BACK into the parking spot my bike was in, hit it on the side plastic of the front tire hugger, and knocked it over. The guy had stood my bike up by the time I got out there.

I walked up, acted very cool, and asked what happened. They told me, I looked the bike over real quick, and asked if they had insurance. The girl immediately said she'd rather just pay for the damages. I told her it will probably be several hundred dollars, parts are not cheap on a sportbike...She said she didn't care. I told them to go ahead and go inside and eat, and I'd look the bike over to figure out how much it would cost.

    So..

    Bent clutch lever
    Bent kickstand
Broken in two front tire hugger
    Scratched lh side mid fairing
Scratched headlight cowl on side and front

So, I hop on eBay on the iPhone, come up with $450 dollars, walk in, pull up a chair next to their booth and calmly explain how much each part would cost if I bought it online, without labor. The girl offers to run to the ATM. I agree, go sit down with my gf, leaving the girl's boyfriend to enjoy his meal that arrived just as the girl was leaving.

Girl leaves, comes back, hands me $450 cash.

Figure I'll fix the kickstand and clutch lever myself, replace the front hugger, and deal with the scratches on the mid and headlight fairings.

I found the front tire hugger for $62 shipped.

Anyone have/know of a better deal?

Sorry to hear about the bike but I like the way you handled the situation.

Thank you. I try to stay calm in situations like that - helps everything go a lot smoother. Her day was already ruined - no point in making it worse for either of us.

Wow.. that sucks but you handled it well and you're lucky that someone saw it and that the people stayed around.

I'm just glad, for the girl's sake and mine, that we took our helmets inside with us. That would have been another $400, that I probably wouldn't get back.
