    Default My Crash

Hey whats up guys? I don't usually come in here, but just wanted to share with you guys my motorcycle accident that happened two months ago (Dec 3, 2009). So I was on my way to work around 3am going north about 40-43mph in the first lane as I was approaching a vehicle trying to make a left facing south. So then the dude in the Tacoma truck didn't see me coming, and makes a left right in front of me, and I tried stopping, but it was too late, so I let go of my bike, and kinda threw myself to the right(thankfully no cars were coming in that right lane) and I rolled about 60 ft on the ground, and I was in so much pain. Thankfully there was a LAPD patrol there, and they saw everything, and came to assist me, even though one of the officers was rude, and called me a dumb ass, because he thought I fell because I was trying to do a endo, because my front wheel came up when I hit the brakes hard. Ambulance picked me up, and took me to the hospital where I was treated, and got stitches done. My right knee still hurts, and my left leg is still swollen, and lower back is in pain once in a while. I had to get a lawyer, because the guy had given a weird insurance name, but everything worked out so his insurance came last week to look at my bike, and I got a check yesterday for $6,550 for the bike, because they totaled it, and salvaged it. Oh, and yes I was wearing my gear, and I feel lucky nothing major happened to me. I want to get another bike even though my mom, and gf do not want me to, but I am looking at another Yamaha R6, or R1, and maybe GSXR 750. Anyways here are the pics. Also what do you guys think I can get for my bike if I sell it? Its a 2006 Yamaha R6 Raven with 8,300 miles with obvious damage, and salvage?. Thanks

did you claim your gear with the insurance claim? if you don't know, you can claim your helmet, jacket, gloves etc in a crash.

Man, if you had leather pants on you probably could have just walked away! Good luck healing up.

Dayum sorry to hear about the mishap man, at least you walked away relatively OK.

I'd say part it out, Sell the frame and motor off on a race forum like WERA for a track bike since it's salvaged. Sell the other parts off here and on the WERA forum, that'll generate some dough for your next pile.

With that hit to the front end I'd DEFINITELY have the frame checked before selling it to a track only rider. Dont wanna sell something off that's crooked as shit.

Here's an option on that since you're in So Cal. Give Mackie Welding a call, he's in Sierra Madre. He charges $250 if he has to tweak it, but if it's straight he'll only charge $100 or so for checking it. Dude does great work and a ton of the lcoal racers use him to get their frames straightened.

Strip that pile down and give it to him pretty bare so he can work on it easily. Should be pretty much a frame, motor, wires, and wheels when you take it to him.

If you do part it out, I might be interested in the bracket that secures the tank to the subframe. I'm having a tough time atm with a WERA forum member on that piece and I might pull the plug on that transaction since he's bein kinda flakey about it.

^ most insurance companies will let you buy the bike back as a salvage for a very low cost many times just letting you keep the bike issuing you a salvage title and taking the difference out of the check they write you for the bike.
