well how about some details finally. i had ridden this loop 3 times previously but in the west bound direction. this time i decided to take it east bound just for fun. on one stretch of road (where i ate it) it looks like a straight road for about 6 miles or so. there are a number of hills that i was aware of but this one hill apparently has an S curve on the opposite side. long story short, i just wasn't prepared for the turns and the last thing i remember is watching my front wheel hit the shoulder. i think i tried to correct and i high sided sending the bike ass over teakettle and me rag dolling through the middle of the S. i landed on the road which fortunately is not a very busy one.

my first memory was this amazing woman telling me not to move but i was sure it was a dream that i would wake up from any second. i asked her and she said that no, i had been in an accident. nobody knows how long i was there for before she found me. we imagine it was only about 5 minutes. my left wrist was killing me so i asked her to take off the glove which i was sure was about 3 inches too high on my arm. turns out it was about 3 inches too high. so was my hand. that's when it hit me that i was fucked up in a big way. i just relaxed, gave one of the nice guys there my wife's name and phone number and waited until i heard the ambulances.

the paramedics pulled off my boots and my other glove then cut me out of my leathers. they splinted both ankles, right leg and left wrist then taped me to the board with my helmet and spine protector. that's about when i heard the helicopter landing a little way down the street. they pretty quickly loaded me into the helicopter and we took off for santa rosa memorial hospital. i thought for sure that the helicopter was going to be cool but with my helmet taped to the backboard all i had was a lame ass view of the ceiling. for $23,858.00 i kind of figured we would at least do some loops or at a minimum have some sort of view of the propellors, maybe just a nudie calendar but definitely not flat black painted sheet metal.

i wrote last time from the ICU. after 15 hours of surgery i'm now at a rehab center where i'll likely be for 3-5 weeks. won't be walking for 3 months and won't be walking unassisted for 6 months or more. so here's the total damage. fractured right ankle and foot, fractured left ankle, compound fracture of left tibia and fibula, shattered and dislocated left knee cap, separated pelvis (2.34 cm) severely fractured left wrist, fractured left radius and ulna and a small fracture on my right thumb. lots of people ask me how i keep from depression with so much damage and such a long difficult road ahead of me. it's pretty simple really, i didn't hit a tree or a car, i didn't hurt anyone else and of the 200 or so beds in this rehab center, there are something like 40 motorcycle accident patients and i'm the only one who can talk. i am quite clearly extremely lucky. i should start playing lotto... so here's all that's left of the bike. now back to sleep. i feel like i just typed a novel with 2 fingers on one hand. oh yeah, i only have 2 good fingers on one hand....

So glad you're still alive buddy. Hang in there, and we are all behind you. You've joined the ranks of the many others on here who have taken a nasty one but came out on top. You're not out of the woods yet, but like you said, you can still talk.

Best of luck to you man. We're here for you!
