I work part time at AutoZone, and today I was at work. I clocked out to go get some lunch and took the R6 back to my house. I was on a 4 lane highway with a turning lane in the middle (Amnicola Highway for those familiar with the Chattanooga area). I was in the far left lane going about 45 mph following the car ahead of me; the left lane was going faster than the right lane. All of a sudden I hear BAM! and something hit me hard in the rear on the right side of the motorcycle. I look back and see a Honda now in my lane with me, forcing me into the turn lane. I throw my hand up to say WTF!? and then signal the guy to pull over. We pull over and some Indian (the dot kind) hops out of the car. He then tells me that I was in his lane and that I shouldn't have tried to pass him like that. WTF? I tell him that I was in the left lane the whole time and that he came into my lane and hit me. We inspect my motorcycle for damage and find none. Then we look at the front left of his car, and find a huge gouge left from my foot pegs. He ended up apologizing and accepted responsibility for what happened. Since he did no damage to me or the bike, I let him go without calling the cops.
I was surprised at how stable the motorcycle was considering he hit me pretty hard. It definitely scared me, but I wasn't scared until after I pulled over; I was just mad at first at the fact he hit my bike! The foot pegs, both mine and passenger, have his paint on them. Maybe he'll be more careful the next time he switches lanes.
