Just a Reminder - Be Careful in the Canyons!!!

This clip is of Connor Cummins in last year's Isle of Man TT senior race. He crashes out pretty gnarly, and reminds me of exactly why I stopped riding canyons.

Granted, he's hauling ass on a closed course, but let's say there's a minivan mom on her phone coming the other way on your canyon run that doesnt see or expect you, or some jackass passing someone on the opposite side of the road in a blind corner, big rocks or animals in the road, etc...

It could go one of two ways, either this way off the side of a hill, or right into the side of a hill, wall or guardrail. Thankfully most of us have been fortunate to survive, but I'll take the only helicopter ride I've ever had, but don't remember, as my own little reminder of why I don't do this shit any more...

how do you feel about pacing it in the canyons danny? i've been thinking maybe I'll head out there on some weekends without too much speed..

Honestly, I can't say that I don't miss getting out and cruising. I'd love to take a chill spin after dinner on a nice summer evening for instance. But the amount of stupid out there seems to far outweigh intelligence.

Really, just given the war stories you hear about people dumping oil in the corners on purpose in places like Azusa or Palomar, in addition to stupid stuff mentioned above, kinda makes me glad I don't do it any more.

People just don't think about bikers being there, or they have ill will against us because of squids like the ones in that CP vid where they shut down the 75 in Dallas, but were dumb enough to get the stencil wrong on the ground.

I dunno, I'm pretty well over riding the streets aside from just cruisin, but like I said, that all gets ruined when I think of the possibilities. Granted I aint innocent of riding like a maniac either, but I learned from it, and look back and think, "WOW, I was incredibly fuckin stupid for doing that!"

danny drove us through the canyons in his truck. i was freaking out from that alone. don't know how u guys ride their. big balls man.

I barrowed my buddy's spare bike last month and went out to Malibu Cyn. The whole experience was definitely weird. Being in the suit again, reprogramming my visual skills, and just getting up to speed with all the information bombarding you. Granted I was pussy-foot'n the whole ride, I easily realized at the end of the day...I'm glad my routine weekend stints in the canyons are far and away done.
