This morning I got a phone call from a buddy of mine telling me that our friend crashed his bike the night before. The phone call was brief and pretty much told me that he fractured his shoulder blade, ribs, and messed up a disk in his spine....
He was riding some back roads with some friends (he was the only one wearing a leather jacket and gloves when everyone else was in shorts and a t-shirt) they made one pass just fine on the way back, he took the lead and was going at a decent pace. I've ridden and driven this roads MANY times and know it very well. The spot that he crashed was a mild right hander but going the direction he was there is a dip right at the entry of the corner. If you go fast enough u barely notice it, but if you go at the right speed u will feel it kinda huck you up from the seat...and it did exactly what i just said. From what he remembers he said he hit the dip and doesnt remember anything else but feeling like his arm got ripped off, and from what i heard from my other friends is that after hitting the dip the bike got really light and he started skidding causing him to high side and go off the road... he barely missed a tree.
The bike got pretty messed up, front main stay is destroyed, rear subframe snapped and bent, left clip on broken, oil cover broken, fairings got messed up, and might have a bent forks. I didn't look at it that close but I'll take photos of it.
after talking to my other friends they said from witnessing that accident, they know it could of been any of them and I know at least one of my other friend is going to start wearing his gear.
I'm so happy that he's alive and kicking. I'm also proud of him for wearing his gear like everyone should. I think that help prevent a lot of other injury's and maybe even his life.
