You should plan your route thru the cities that R6L members are in. Try to get as many people on here as possible to meet up with you when you're in their city and at least ride thru the city with you. That would make an awesome thread with lots of pics from you and them.

Too bad you're not taking I-10 from Cali or I'd meet up with you too.....If you decide to, I'll ride a few hrs with you.
Awesome ideas! I thought about riding thru places that had R6L members. The route isnt set in stone yet. I'm willing to go anywhere and meet you guys, if im in the area. Ill hit up Cali no prob, might as well hit the west coast instead of just stopping at the Tahoe area. Take it to San Fran, hit up Seca, then catch the 101/1 north.

Will do. Im itching to head south and ride the gap, but I think I might save the south for another trip, which might bring me more north towards Ohio and Illinois.

Anyone know of a website like google maps that displays gas stations and hotels?

Just do yourself a Favor now and pick up a Garmin Zumo and wire it to the bike, the Garmin suction cup mount seems to work pretty well attached to the face of the Tack or Speedo on many bikes, Give you real time speed data so no need for guages and hotel, gas, food is usually pretty up to date.. A bike mounted GPS is a must have on a long continental trip like you're planning.

I'm surprised no one brought up this yet:

I was looking Garmin the other day. Either the Zumo 660 or 665 depending on whats around when it comes time to get it.

find out the difference between the 660 and 665 all I could tell was the XM weather and traffic updates and if so make sure to ask if there is a subscription fee after initial purchase.. I know that's how it used to work but I don't see why there is such a price increase between both units unless the xm subscription is free with purchase

Yeah I compared the two on the the Garmin site and the only difference it could find was the 660 has MSN direct while the 665 has XM.

It comes with the XM wires, but you need a subscription yet to actually get radio. Then another subscription for weather/traffic, if i read right. Talk about rape. I still have no clue why its 200 more than the 660.

At least both have bluetooth. I plan on getting a more touring friendly modular helmet with bluetooth for the GPS and phone (if need be). Like the Vemar here:

yeah you'll learn quick on long days how nice it is to have a modular helmet... just be sure to check them out in person.. I love Scorpion helmets but their Exo-900 modular had a flimsy pull mechanism that felt like you could easily break it if not careful where ass my Shoei Sincrotec I've had for years has a very strong reliable mechanism.. the newer helmets with the intigrated bluetooth and built in sun shields are some major improvements

Yeah, the drop down sun shield is a must for that long of a trip.
