    Default 1995 Ducati 916

Anyone familiar with the Ducks? Local guy has a clean clean clean 916 for sale for a great price...cheaper than a used R6 with more miles. Someone talk me out of buying this thing. I know the mid-90s bikes required a lot of maintenance, and rattled like a harley...but it's just. so. sexy.

This is a 1995 Ducati 916, the original Ducati Superbike. Original owner, always garaged, adult owned and ridden. Never tracked 9,915 miles. Fully serviced / documented service records - new battery. Bike comes with 4K in extras (Rear wheel stand, Service manual, Termigoni Carbn Fiber Exhaust system, Carbon Fiber Front and Rear fenders and front oil cowl. Additional extras include eurochip, Dymag-magnesium wheels) All original OEM parts included

+1, i can barely afford to get my triumph serviced
but if all the service history is there i wouldn't be too concerned about it, especially if its done less then 10,000miles in 16 years!!

if your not ridin' your not livin'

5K seems a bit steep but that would be hard to turn down

I would buy that in a heart beat. If you dont buy I will murder someone for 5 grand and buy it out from under you.

But really, I would be VERY cautious of a 916 at this point if you dont know your way around Duc's. Things can get VERY expensive if you have the work done. I would request the paper work for the maintence done on it over the years if he had it done at a dealer/shop. The 916 era required minor( yet expensive) services every 6k and MAJOR services at 12k. Most important of that being valve shims and timing belts. If would check for cush drive sections for dry rot. The mileage might not require it, but the age DEFINITELY would. Hopefully the forks have been maintained with fresh seals too. Also the clutch slave gasket might have dry rotted too causing fluid leakage above/left of the primary sprocket.

The low mileage would keep me feeling good about "wear" parts like bearings, sprockets etc.... But age important parts like seals, gaskets and rubber would concern me.

Id say go for it, but only if you're willing to dive into Duc's head first. If you're buying it, but wont learn or touch the maint on it yourself....your wallet will want to kill you.

OEM parts are crazy expensive but there a a few good sites out there that sell aftermarket parts for alot cheaper.
