On a side note though..I didn't read the thread but wanted to put my $.02 in. I have had a Pilot Power 2ct on the rear for a bit of time now..When I was in florida and used the bike for commuting I was chewing through rear tires. I wasn't doing anything dumb..just riding it. I finally switched to the 2ct and the middle of the tire held up awesome. Now that im back in Missouri and get to hit up twisties, I still love the tire.

2ct's are nice but the BT016es are better, for me anyway. I didn't get all the way through every response on this thread so forgive me if I echo the sentiments of someone else but tires really depend on the style of the rider.

I ran dunlop qualifiers a while ago. I thought they were great, had awesome grip on the twisties but they were a bit too stiff and inconsistent at times. After that I ran the 2cts and thought they were awesome. At some point though I felt a lip of inconsistency as well. If I was in a good lean they had awesome grip and if I was straight up or slightly angled they were great but it seemed like there was a lip that I would hit that seemed to upset my rhythm when I did canyon runs.

The BT016es have been good to me so far. I want to say, in my limited experience, that the triple compound makes for a smoother transition into lean angle and they also hold up quite well in slick conditions. My only concern is HOW soft they can get on the edges if you've been pushing them in the twisties for a while. I don't mind a little bit of rear end slip here and there but my concern was mostly whether or not it was a tire pressure issue or if it was something that would be more prominent as the warm conditions persisted. If thats the case then I don't want them on the bike in the summer when temps around here hit excess of 106. And in which case I'd want something a little harder that may take a bit longer to warm up.

But again, that really depends on your riding style. If you aren't really going balls out all the time I think that any of those tires will work for you. I certainly wouldn't turn any of them down if they were offered to me.

I'm on my second set of BT-016's and to tell you the truth, I've only had them slide once. Yesterday actually, when I was going up the backside of Ortega and it was a rather smooth progressive slide. It might be due to the fact that it was my 6th or 7th pass down the backside though. Wasn't at all startling which was a rather good thing because it was when I was going around that 190 degree turn at the bottom. In regards to the soft edges, I've got about an 1/8 of an inch left on my rear(R1 w/a 190/55) and you can definitely see the difference in compounds and the degradation.

So... coincidentally I get to go buy new tires now for the R6 and I'll most likely be getting the BT-016's. I haven't really looked all that indepthly at the manual yet but is there a special tool I'm going to need for the tire changing process on this bike?

Not to threadjack or anything but its KINDA related.

^? as in rim off the bike? or tire off the rim? if the first, then the tools you have in the garage should do.

    Wheel off the bike.

Thanks, just making sure that nothing requires an odd sized tool that I need to special order.

You need a pretty big wrench/ socket for the axle nut on the rear( 30+ mm..dont remember the exact size..roughly 1 1/4" if you are one of those peeps that use the wrong tools).

The front you can use the back of a spark plug socket on most models to get the axle bolt out. You just stick an extension down through the socket part..basically use it backwords(this is very hard to explain..you will catch on quick if you just try it)

Just to update some info the front 2CT has the softer compound on the outer 10% of the tire. The rear 2CT has the softer compound on the outer 11% of the tire. Not really that much of a difference vs. the 10% but figured I'd post up the facts. I'm planning on getting a set when the stock dunlops are done.

I am currently running the 2CTs front and rear. As a street tire, they are very good tires. Good response, great turn in, good wear. A great upgrade from stock.

For a track tire, I would definitly select a different tire. I ran the 2CTs at a two day event at Streets of Willow. The front tire had about 100 miles on it. The rear tire had about 750 miles on it. They held up good through out the weekend. The problem was that the tires would get very greasy after a couple of laps/as the tire got hotter. I noticed the tire would slide both on the front and the rear. Both days were extremely hot, and I was pushing the tire harder each progressive session. On the second day in the third session, the tire became so greasy that I ended up lowsiding on turn 8.

Overall, I would recomend these tires for street riding or canyon carving, but I would not use these again for the track.
