2003 R6 - Question about Bike!! NEED ADVICE!!!!

Hello -

I need some advice on whether or not this is a good bike to invest in. This would be my first bike, as I just completed the MSF course at the end of last month.

I'm going through a third-party seller to purchase a used 2003 Blue Yamaha R6. It has 17,000 miles and is in 'perfect' condition. I would be the 3rd owner of the bike, if I purchase it. Originally, the seller was asking for $4,500 and I was able to haggle him down to $3,250. I am going to take a look at the bike today to see if it's worth the money. The bike has been lowered, stretched, and has new tires. The seller also has included LED tail lights. Also, is there anything in particular I should look for on the bike when inspecting the R6? I want to bring my friend that's a little more 'motorcycle savvy' to help inspect the bike since I don't really have a clue as to what to ask the seller or look for on the bike.

Can anyone give me a 'yes' or 'no' as to whether this is a good deal for this bike? Thank you for your time. I've also attached an image of the bike, too. Thanks!

Why do you want to buy a lowered and stretched bike?

Good deal, NO!

I bought my 05 R6 2 years ago for that much and it was flawless with only 3k on the clock. I suggest you look around, not deterring you away from the R6 but the SV650 are pretty darn cheap now a days. For a first bike try to find something decent with under 10k miles so you won't have to worry too much maintenance other than changing your oil.

I'd have to agree with segiterrus on this one. that bike has been customized, and for a novice rider, i wouldn't recommend it. not to mention that since it has been customized, it is not in "perfect" condition. you don't know how well the modifications were done, and even if they will last long enough for you to make it home after you hand him the cash. keep looking would be my advice. look for stock (standard) bike, with less miles. once you gain some more experience, then you can look into the custom bikes if you like. give you an idea of a bike. I bought my '05 R6 a few years ago in 2009, from a guy who hardly ever rode it. He was the original owner, and when i got it, it had 3K miles on it. never downed, not a scratch on it. it came with a yoshimura slip on exhaust and a custom windscreen. (both stock parts came with also). I paid $4500 for it. Good luck in the search, and welcome to the riding community.

Stretched and slammed is no bueno for a sportbike. Keep looking.

What everyone else said.. I literally cringed when I read lowered and stretched.. stay away from that.. You don't need that, you dont want to be that guy. 03's are beautiful bikes (I love mine!) but not lowered and stretched. Keep looking! As the weather gets cooler, you'll find better deals out there.
