Here’s a quick how-to on installing velocity stacks (v-stax) on the 03/04's. The ones I installed were the factory pro’s but they all install the same way. To install the v-stax you first have to remove the air box.
Once you have the box out you will need to remove throttle body joints. The throttle body joints are the 4 rubber circles with the silver clamps on them in the picture; they slide over the throttle bodies.
Here’s a picture of the air box from the top with the top half removed. The 4 holes are where the v-stax will sit. Note: You do not have to remove the top half of the air box as the v-stax are installed from the outside of the air box. I took the top half off of mine because I installed a new air filter at the same time.
This is the bottom of the air box where the v-stax need to be pushed into the hole.
The holes are slightly too small for the v-stax to fit so I had to dremel the holes ever so slightly. Here you can see the difference; the first hole is demeled (hadn't cleaned it up yet) and the second one hasn’t been done yet. Some people actually force them into the holes with no problem but I didn’t want to risk cracking my air box. Again, many have installed them without modifing the air box so it is possible. DISCLAIMER: Modify your air box AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Here is a comparison of the stock (black) v-stax vs the factory pro (silver) ones. They are displayed in the same arrangement as they are when they are installed in the air box.
Here’s how the v-stax fit in the air box; with the “arrow” pointed down to the ground. The wider lip fits on the outside of the box while only the top potion goes inside the air box itself.
Here’s how the v-stax look when looking down on them from the top.
Here’s one stack installed.
Here are all 4 v-stax installed. Reassemble everything and enjoy the nice top end pull![]()
