    Default How-to: Kill-Switch Lock (Racebike)

So I think I'm going to be getting rid of my key plug on the bike soon, so I don't have to worry about key's at all when I'm at the track. I'll be wiring it directly into the factory kill switch so along with that I made a little kill-switch lock to keep the thing from accidentally flipping on and draining my battery while towing to the track.

Basically you drill through the red part of the switch, then the black, do the best you can to line them up so your r-clip slides through nicely. I suggest opening up the switch to make sure you're not drilling through anything important first.

Then safety wire the clip to the clip-on and you're all done

    Easy as that.

And just for fun, this is what my bike looks like at the moment

So that clip is just so you don't turn it on my accident right? When you are ready to ride you remove that cotter pin?

I will post up when I do it. Probably in the track section though, to avoid promoting theft.

Yes, you remove it, that's why I safety wired it to the bike, so i don't lose it..

I just safety wired it to the clip-on, it just dangles, I could drill a hole for it to plug into elsewhere but that's not really necessary, the important thing is that it doesn't flip on by accident and can be switched off when in the on position.

i wouldnt worry about this with theft, im sure theres gonna be way too much work involved for them. once they get it 95% of the time your sol anyways, theyre just gonna jam a screwdriver in the cylinder

Werd, theives already know how to steal the new gen R6 and many other bikes. Nonetheless, I still dont like seeing it being written just cuz it's another outlet for someone to learn how. But, it's been published on national levels already too. It's a VERY simple wiring job. Learned that when I removed mine, and it's a pretty scary thought for street riders.

Tamer, another way I've seen this done wasnt so much to prevent it from turning on, but to keep it from turning off in a race if you get nice and cozy with another racer's arm. Imagine drilling perpendicular to the direction you drilled through the upper part of the rocker that's up and out of the switch housing when the bike is turned on, and installing a srping clip through that hole while the bike is running to keep the switch from being able to be shut off. Not really race legal I dont think given race rules say you have to have an operational kill switch, but...

    that could solve my question.

drilled one way to prevent it from turning on during transport, drilled the opposite way to prevent it from turning off in a race...

    good thinking DD.

Yeah DD I definitely thought about that, but it definitely isn't race legal. But would be very handing in the event of a minor lowside where the bike is still ridable, so the bike stays on. Or if you have retard friends like mine that like to come by and switch you off on the straight lol

speaking of, i've always wondered what happens if someone were to come by and flick the kill switch off while riding.

i had envisioned the bike locking up and flipping end over end, but that was a worst case scenario...
