How to: Hard wire a radar detector to your R6

This is taken with the left side assembly cover (right underneath your clutch assembly) off.

and the ground is right next to is. The bolt isnt even torqued hard at all to the frame. Its right on the other side of the fork if you turn the handle bars to the left.

Where did you get the part to tap on the red wire??? I went to Kragen and they don't have it. What do you call it?

Did you ever purchase this? I'm looking at getting it very possibly, just scoping out the different possibilities right now for putting my radar on my bike and this looks the most practical to make it visual. It would be tight if I could have the radar somewhere more hidden (i.e. not under the windshield) and then this thing like right under the windshield or something.

Its called a wire tap. Radioshack will have them for sure. I believe the one I used is called an alligator style wire tap, but A normal wiretap should work too. They just look a little bit different

Nope never purchased it. For the little time I had the detector on my bike, I actually didnt have that hard of a time hearing it. Just turned it up to max volume and it always seemed to catch the corner of my eye even when I wasnt paying attention to it.

I ordered it actually, I'll let you know how it is when I get everything installed. I planned on installing my radar like this guy: Radar Detecer install? : Yamaha R1 Forum (see posts 9 and 10) So I won't be able to see the thing at all. I just need to figure out how is going to be the best way to hard wire the thing. I ordered passports hardwiring kit for my radar. Haven't really done much wiring though so we'll see.

what year is your R6? mine is an 07 and when I took the seat off, it doesn't look like your pic, what color is the wire on an 07 R6 that I need to splice into for 12v power?

I have an '06 R1. I would imagine the same thing would work for an R6, but I can't be for sure

check out the link I posted. I didn't put anything under the seat, I put it under the windscreen. Also look at the members photo's and video section on the forum here, as I did post a couple pics of where/how it's mounted. I ended up just plugging it into an existing wiring area behind the gauge cluster.
