Since my bike was already taken apart from my recent lowside, I decided to go ahead and hardwire a radar detector to my bike since all the wires were easy to get to.
What you'll need:
1. Radar Detector (duh)
2. Velcro (or some way of mounting your radar detector)
3. Wire cutters
4. Tap splices
What to do:
1. Remove the gas tank, seat, and what ever else is in the way. Yeah, removing the gas tank is a pain in the ass, but go ahead and do it anyways.
2. Pick a place to mount your radar detector. I put mine on top of the guage cluster behind my tinted windscreen.
3. Cut off the end of the wire where the cigarette lighter adapter is and junk it. There should be two wires exposed. Mine were red and white. Red is power, white is ground.
4. Find the brown connector on the left side of the frame. The brown wire that goes into it is a 12v power source. I decided to tap into the black wire that's after the brown connector.
5. For the ground wire, a tap splice wasn't needed. I simply found the part of the bike that acts as the ground. As you can see in the picture below, there's a bolt (5/16) that I loosened up, put the ground wire under it, and then tightened it back up again.
That's it. Turn the ignition on the bike and turn on your radar detector.
