    Question another strange idle problem 03 r6

    Noticed a problem, just bought a 03 r6 and it has an idle problem. the bike starts fine and runs fine for about 10 min then the idle just drops to around 800 rpm and then cuts out. it starts right back up and will keep doing it as soon as i give it gas it runs fine it happens only at idle. now when im riding, the bike has plenty of power and good throttle responce, when i slow down and pull the cluch it drops again and cuts out. the last 2 times i rode the bike it didnt do it (aprox 2 hrs of riding) then the gas light came on i stopped and filled up with premium and right away the problem started again. im aware of the coil recall but i have't checked mine yet. im wondering if i have alittle water in my tank since it started right after i filled up. but any suggestions would be appreated.

    Call any yamaha dealer with your VIN to see if your bike falls under the recall. You might want to go ahead and do a basic maintenence as well. Oil, oil filter, spark plugs, clean air filter, check coils, check for pinched hoses, check for vacuum leaks. If you dont trust whats in the tank, go ahead and drain it and refill. Might want to add some fuel system cleaner if the bike has been sitting for a while. Also check and flush your cooling system.

    Sounds like the coil issue. I had the same problem. It will start to get worse in time, to the point where you will need to rev the crap out of it to get it rolling and it will start cutting out more often when you slow down. It could be scary in a tight turn. I didn't know about the recall but Yamaha gave me my money back on their own. I didn't even notify them, they just sent sent the parts to the shop for free and the shop gave me my money back.
