    Post overheating

i have an 06 R6 when i bought it and was ridding it back it started to overheat completly like 240, whoever i bought it from i guess didnt realize he needed to put fluid in it i flushed it good and put engine ice in it and it was running fine then a month went by and it was completly empty radiator an overflow, i noticed its been leaking down somewhere on the right fairing down to the back near the muffler and collecting wher the to lower fairings connect and its running what i think is high in the morning in 50 degree weather its gets to like 190 if anyone knows what might be going on please let me know i mean 1 minute or less in traffic and the fan kicks on. help me out thanks

190 is a little high for that ambient temp if you're moving. If you're stop and go that's a perfectly fine temp. In traffic it's normal to get up to 220+ and have the fan kick on in just a few minutes. So all the temperature stuff seems OK.

As for the leak, these bikes have a common leak point on the water pump housing. It's on the lower right of the motor below the clutch cover. It's a cheap and easy fix, as only (normally) the water pump cover needs replacing. If it's that leak, it's the small nipple on the outside of the cover with a small hose that goes up to the top of the motor. It could also be the weep hole at the back of the water pump which would mean the pump would need replacing, but that's much more rare.

Its a closed loop system that does not need to be touched until servicing. Same as brake fluid and battery electrolytes. Adding fluid to ANY of these systems, points to a larger issue. (I dont care if its a motorcycle, bulldozer, school bus or a passenger car).

Lets hope no head gasket issue, because 240 is nasty hot.

Just figured a little education is better than not knowing.

That's about right on par with my 07 R6. On the freeway it will maintain 163. For stop and go traffic it goes anywhere from 190 to I believe just over 220 and have not seen it climb any higher (that I can remember). My fan kicks on around 210 to 215 it seems like. I was thinking about running Redline Water Wetter with Distilled Water when it's due to be flushed again. Anybody run that mix or have heard good things?

sorry to reviv this thread, but better than starting a new one.

    i have a 2005 R6 also know as the R6S for years 05+.

My 05 R6 usually sits around 95-100 C (202-212 F) in stop go traffic. The fans kick in at 100-101 C (212-214 F) at which point it starts going back down.

I am booked in for my first track day on the R6 just wondering if other 03 04 05 R6, 05+ R6S run similar temps.

I get 170-180 while moving, 210-220 while sitting at red lights. Summer numbers. About 5-10 lower during the winter. Temps seem norm imo.
