    Default Need a chain

Well, after a good 30,000 km (20,000 miles) and couple of trackdays (around 8), I think I will change my chain since I don't want to break it and it start to rust a bit. (I am not the biggest greaser guy).

I just don't know what to get. I would like to get the gold chain with stock sproket because they hold up pretty good. I heard that after market sprockets wear out quicker because made out of aluminum instead of steel like the OEM kit.

I don't want to go with a 520 conversion because I can't careless about saving unsprung mass. I am not valantino rossi and I don't feel that what is holding me up to be quicker on the bike...

I am looking for another 30,000 km of good service. I might want to go to 530 but I won't go any smaller. Somebody is suggesting me the DID530vmX

    The dilemma I got is:

Original Yamaha kit (chain both sprockets for $270)
532 DID gold chain + both sprockets is around $375
530 DID gold chain + aftermarkets sprockets is $225

I really don't know what to get....

Look into sunstar or jt sprockets. They basically make all the stock sprockets on most bikes today and will only cost about $100 for them.

They will be stock sprockets and you can get them in the stock 530 choice if you choose but most go for the 520 because of the weight savings which I know you don't care about. 520 chain will cost you less btw and it will still last you as long as a 530 if you take care of it like you should. Not sure why you wouldn't want to save unsprung weight...don't need to be valentino to shed a some useless weight.

One thing if you are looking for service life is try and find a steel rear sprocket, the aluminum one will not last as long. Plus the small amount of weight that close to the center of the wheel really won’t matter.

I would think you won't notice much difference is service life on a 520 chain over a 530, plus they are cheaper and easier to find. Just get a name brand X ring chain and maintain it.

That's good point if I could maintain it it can probably last as long. If I want to save weight, I have more to win by going to the gym anyway and it will be mass that sits high on the bike

    I will still try to find a 530 or 532 chain but if I can't I will go with a 520.

Why not just go 520? It's cheaper and saves you weight...it's a win win.

I have used both JT and Sunstar both are good. As long as you get a good quality chain and steel sprocket your good for over 20000 miles with 520,530 or 532 so shop by price.
