6000 will be a better light output with a hint of blue. meh for show, great for visible light (of the three choices)
8000 will be bluish. ok for show, ok for light.
10000 will be blue/purple. cool for show, no good at all for visible light.
i'm not a show guy so I went with the visible light of 5000k. matched with mini H1 projectors from retrofitsource.com this produced a clean line and that hint of blue that everyone seems to rave about. i just like that it's nearly bright as day within the range of my projectors.
Is this just a bulb replacement or what all would I need to do what you have done? I have stock lighting, which really is somewhat impressive, but as a large part of my driving is at night, some better lights would be nice.
I see this from the site you posted.. What else? How hard's the install?

o dude. i hated night driving. then i found out my neighbor does HID projector retrofitting as his business. hooked me up solid.
Basically what is involved for a full retro fit is two ballast, two bulbs (same as a simple bulb swap) but then you add the projectors to make it a full swap. Sure you can replace bulbs and that'll be better, but to really take advantage of the HID capability you should use projectors.
this is the 5k kit with miniH1
Matt is super helpful and the install couldn't have been easier. Yes Krypton is cheaper but honestly if you dive into their reviews, you'll find that the products they use are absolute crap (which is why they're so cheap).
It literally is bright as day with these on at night.
edit: it looks like you have projectors already on the r1. so a simple bulb swap with ballasts would really help you out.
^ Wow, fastest best response ever
So it looks like $150 for the whole kit then? Is that everything I need? So how hard would this be to actually do on my own? I can do a lot of stuff, but I need some solid directions still
since you have projectors already for your low beams, really easy. if you can turn a a screw you can do this install. you'd need bulbs and ballasts only.
figure out what bulb type you have first, then you can select the right kit for you. 150 sounds about right. definitely give Matt a call with any questions and he'll help you out. Tell him that Nathan sent you and maybe he'll help you out on a better price
yea i've got nothing to do on a monday evening other than catch up on my weekend races.
technically this is the kit I have installed right now
edit: trix - this would be everything you need:

looks like H7
i linked you to the wrong bulb page.
correct one: Other Sizes: Morimoto 3Five Bulbs - HID Bulbs from The Retrofit Source Inc
drop down menu - H7 and then your preferred Kelvin. Matt doesn't offer anything higher than 6K because he doesn't care for the "show market" and doesn't want to sell lights that aren't safe.
