Aka - 2nd is more than fine.
^ Hence my use of a track experience.

Bottom line is that the aggressive riding should be taken to the track.

It's hard to say what gear you should be in without actually riding the road. I also judge the road up ahead, if there is a tight corner ahead and I'm at 15 I won't upshift as I want to use engine braking going into the corner instead of jacking on my brakes.
So you mean to say on the street in regular or aggressive riding you will enter a corner between 7-15K rpm in 1st gear!?!? SKILLS!

It just seems to torquey, even at 4-6K RPM where in any other gear even approaching the power band its easy to be smooth.

on a serious note to the tread, with aggressive riding in the twisties stay out of 1st. theres a few 15mph turns that i just stay in 2nd....granted im doing about 30-40 anyways. if your doing say 20 just stay in 2nd it might lag for a little but its better than giving to much gas and getting into trouble especially since your a new rider

Love highway 9 and skyline! Not really my style to ride it like a race track even when empty but you can definetly get a good grove going in those turns .

Took the MB5 up there all the time, cant wait to take the R6!!!

Sometimes Ill go after school (during the week), very little traffic. Or in the summer.

Weekends is not to bad, lots of bikes which is fun but I do like the empty days.

You can always find an empty road off of it though, La Honda and Pescadero are nice. Stage road is a neat goat trail. Highway 1 is great but not very twisty.

    God I love California!

i use 1st gear a lot on some of the tighter roads i ride, just be careful as it can get you into trouble quickly.
