Know what gear your in and should be in going into every turn.
Pay attention to brake markers.
Ride on the balls of your feet, so you can actually feel what the bike is doing beneath you.
This is your workspace. (basically your head and shoulder position through a turn)
Relax, and remember to breathe. Try to force yourself to exhale all the way to the apex of a turn, so you don't tense up.
Be aware of what is going on around you.
Do a couple laps, come in and think about what you have done. Things that you did improve or could improve upon. Just process what you are learning. Shorter tracks give you less time to think between turns.
All of these were from a Pridmore Star School. I had done 2 track days before this, but the Star School taught me things I would not have picked up on my own. A lot of it is just simple stuff, but it helps.
This isn't really advice but it is sort of funny. The year Miguel won the Daytona 200 when he was all hobbled up, he said Al Ludington told him a joke on pit lane. A koala bear goes to a prostitite for sex, he blows his load and tries to take off. She demands payment for the sex. He says I am not going to pay you, I am a koala bear. The prostitute pulls out a dictionary and shows him the definition for a prostitute. A prostitute is someone that has sex for money. The koala grabs the dictionary and shows her the definition for a kaola. A kaola bear eats, shoots, and leaves. Dumb joke I know but Miguel said all he kept thinking about for 200 miles was eats shoots and leaves and he would giggle to himself inside his helmet.
