    Default full lock steering discomfort

Alright, So I am a noob to the sport bike world. I was practicing in the parking lot the other day and with the position of the tank it really makes it hard for me to go full lock steering in either direction. For the maneuvers I was doing it seemed to take corners tight without the extra of the full lock steering. Has anyone else experienced this discomfort or does no one ever need to turn their bike so far you have to go full lock?

The only time you should need to go fuul lock is when you're moving the bike around in very limited space, under your own power. If you are riding at even 5 mph, you should be leaning and you won't need to steer that far. But yes there is not much clearance between the handlebars and the tank, sometimes not even enough to fit a finger in there.

Thanks for the reply, I thought full lock was a little cumbersome it seems like I could be doing some very good manuevering without it. Thanks

Full lock is good for 2 things...Laying it down and pushing it around the garage.

The only time I went full lock was in a parking lot, aaaand I instantly went down...

Full lock now is walking the bike around in or around the garage ONLY!!!!! If you're moving lean that bitch! Steady throttle, hell, you can drag a knee doing 5 - 10mph. Bikes don't steer they lean, if you haven't taken the MSF course I sudjest you do. I learned more in the 2 days there than the 2 years prior of self teaching...

I've gone full lock doing figure 8s before. Those were some tight figure 8s though, when you're prepared for it, it becomes easy to reposition your had before the lock... not recommended for noobs though.

You don't need to go full lock even when going real slow. However you can just lean the opposite way of the bike lean to get a better balance on the bike. Let the bike turn for you. Watch these guys in action to get a better idea
