I failed the Cali one I was nervous and going too slow.

Definitely practice it. Clutch and rear brake are key.

Just found out that in WI they give you a head set for under your helmet and they follow you in a car. It sounds pretty hard core. Oh and the handbook is 64 PAGES!!!

12,000 miles and you are worried? This might make you feel better i did the Motorcycle Safety course in PA with out ever touching a motorcycle and passed the test with less than 8 total hours of riding they test you for your license. The only hard part is the figure 8.

In MI I didn't even have to do a figure 8. I figured the hardest part was going to be the cone weave so I practiced that like no other only to pass that with flying colors and miss a point on the emergency braking. I was a foot past where I should have been for the bike I was using (an fzr600... I wanna say it was a 97...).

With that much riding time under your belt, you should do fine. Just run through what they're going to have to doing for the road test or at least look it over so you know what to expect.

We have the fig 8 in Texas. It was tough for me when I took the course... but I hadn't really ridden much before I took it. I think I would fly through it now. Everything else is so easy it's stupid. Still a good class to take.

With 12,000mi under your belt, you'll be fine.

It's nothing but a series of slow speed turns, throttle and clutch control maneuvers, and fast braking.
