    Default Lane position...

    searched and didn't find anything.

Anyway, I live in San Diego and commute to work on the R6 almost everyday...traffic is thick almost all day. If I'm riding in the far right lane before merging over I find myself riding on the left edge, I do this because I figure it makes me more visible to cars looking to jump over to the right lane. As I move over to the far left lane, I'll stick to the right edge for the same reason. What do you guys think?

Also, I know lane splitting laws in Ca are a little spotty, meaning some cops will roll you for it while some wont even look twice, so I'm wondering your thoughts are or the rule for splitting between any lane. I'll always do it between the far left lane, but I'm hesitant to do it between the other lanes.

im the same way with lane position. far left lane (carpool) im on the right portion of the lane, and just the opposite if i was on the slow lane.

as for lane splitting...as long as it's safe and within the flow of traffic. if it's a major crawling traffic jam, splitting 10-15mph over the flow is fine

^except when your riding with a group of 6 bikes coming home from azuza back to OC, then all lanes (not just left) are fair game

Didn't read the article, but you don't want to stay in one position in the lane the whole time. You want to switch what part of the lane you're in depending on what's around you. Give as much space to cars as possible at all times. Try not to be between them either, give yourself an escape route.

For instance if you're in the middle lane and someone is on your right, be on the left side of the lane just in case they want to come over. And do not cruise next to a car. Ride defensively, etc.

I just make sure there are no cars around me.

Cars always bunch of up on the highway here.

There will be 15 cars in a huddle on the highway and then nothing in front of them for a mile.

So I always speed up to get to the spot with the absolute least amount of traffic.

When there is a little bit of traffic around me I make sure I am in no one's blind spot and I try to get as far away from the other cars as possible in my lane.

How anyone rides without mirrors is beyond me
