Default Insurance -- Wawanesa vs. Liberty Mutual

Looking for new car insurance in the LA area (as I recently moved ). Two best quotes are Wawanesa and Liberty Mutual, with Wawa actually being a decent amount cheaper.

Anyone have either company and/or have comments regarding them? Thanks

I'm not in Cali, but have you checked Geico? They were significantly cheaper for me on auto insurance, but were more expensive on home owner's. Just a thought.

I have Geico on another vehicle, but in all honestly never priced it for this one because I figured they would be pricey.

I've also heard they have a bad rep for jacking up rates obscenely high after a single traffic infraction.

The wife and I will be probably be switching over to Wawanesa after this next policy expires, she checked into it and they also offer homeowner's. What I've heard about them is that you have to have and maintain a clean driving record. I just have one point left on my record which will be falling off at the beginning of next year so we'll prob go for it then.

We've known people in the past that say you cant beat their rates. Just not sure how it works if you get a minor ticket if they jack the rates way up or boot you completely.

We're with some company called Unitrin Specialty Insurance right now while I get my driving record back under control which is about done, stupid bike. Not sure if our homeowner's is with them too or if it's with another company, the wife took care of that one, but the homeowner's policy does cover my bike as part of $45,000 in personal belongings on the policy. Her driving record is clean, but all said and done, her insurance, my insurance, (no bike insurance since I dont ride the steet any more,) and homeowner's on an 1100sq. ft. condo totals out to $125 a month for everything, not pro-rated, but pretty damn good. Never had to file a claim with them though, so not sure I can really say good things about their customer service. We got hooked up with them through a broker named Starlite Insurance in Ontario. Think they also have an office in Norco.

Cool, I actually did get a decent quote through Geico as well (much better than I expected). I need to make a decision quick since I'm currently getting raped sans lube by MetLife.

I'm also trying to figure out if any of them still have poorly worded policies that will allow for coverage at track events (since I started tracking my car) as that would save me over buying dedicated track insurance each time

A lot of insurance companies will cover wrecks at the track, so long as it's not a timed event. You can claim you were at the track improving your defensive riding skills for the street. Might call your ins. to check on that, but I guess it's prob also a grey area too, depending on who you talk to one day vs. another, whoever is on the line may interpret the fine print in a different manner than another.

My car is insured with Wawanesa and my bike is insured with Triple A.
Awhile ago I had one speeding ticket on my record and my insurance went up like crazy, but wawanesa gave me a decent rate. At the time, I don't think Wawanesa insured bikes, which is why I split it apart. However, they will drop you I think if you have 2+ speeding tickets. Their office is in San Diego, but they are a Canadian insurance group!! -- You should totally do it Dangerdog!!!! Its your people!

I haven't been in any accidents with my car, so I can't say how they will respond to it. But i really like their rates and they make it easy to get insured.

State Farm is cheap! at least when I was shopping around. They will also cover your bike at the track.

    Hi Jeannie!
State Farm was also a fucking NIGHTMARE after my accident. I removed all of my vehicles from State Farm and would prefer to never give them another penny.

Just wanna say this place is still awesome. All my points dropped off my record a week ago, I'm paying Bristol west right now 185 a month for full coverage on my Nissan frontier. Got a quote with farmers and wawanesa, farmers came to 140 a month, and here us the kicker, wawanesa was 55 a month with a lower deductible, almost triple the coverage, and better uninsured motorist coverage! So, I didn't even bother getting a quote through anyone else, just cancelled my current plan and got a new one through wawanesa! Thanks for the tip guys
