What branch are you in? I don't know about the other branches, but the air force live in harden shelters. As far as a microbrewery kit... Unless you want an article 15, I wouldn't bring it. (But then again, I heard some places other branches can drink... Just not AF)

UPS power regulator? All you are going to need is a converter piece for your plug.

The Air Force computers have TONS of movies on them, but you can't watch them in your bed/couch or whatever.

You must not be in the AF if you are going for a year.

^ i agree with the above stated. we tried to have a microbrew sent with us, but it got sent back. remember G.O. 1 is still in effect.

bring a comfortable pillow and sheets, some sort of portable game (psp, etc..). there is a lot you could bring, but it will depend on your service and what you will be doing. most guys over there are working 16 hour days, so down time is spend sleeping between training and being attacked.

when you get there, send me your addy and i will get some stuff out to you and your soldiers.

I'm guessing Army or Marines. I think the only AF guys that are there for a year are the commanders. If he was Navy, he wouldn't be worried, because all his stuff is already on the ship.

If you are Army or Marines, you might not have much time to pay any Playstation. But like Shortyr6 said, bring a good blanket and pillow. Also remember that it gets cold as hell in Afgahnistan. LOTS of snow in those mountains.

Im army but I will be on a flight line working closely with the air force. Due to my job sometime I wont have 5 minutes of free time for 10-15 days and then I will have a lull in work for a few days were I will need something to keep me occupied. Also I am not sure exactly how much extra crap I will physically be able to bring. Last time I had a whole footlocker, but we shall see. I do expect to get mortar and rocket attacks on a regular basis. But we all know they can't aim for sh!t.

I take it that you are going to Bagram/KAF or Salerno...If u r stationed at BAF then I would bring a PS3, laptop, plenty of gay ass pt gear, several very cool reflective belts, a good workout plan, magazines, some sort of MP3 player, lube for ass fuckings that will get conducted on daily basis by various people who don't posses stripes/nor really work for a living...

My last deployment was to Afghan but i only spent about a week at BAF, it was my personal observation and i asked various people about how life at BAF was day in and day out...Boredom and political horseshit seems to rule all of the big air fields over there...I had a good time at the food court and bazaar ( afghan's flea market ), GreenBeans coffee is pretty tasty, chow halls are outrageously good with tons of tasty stuff and u can always get shit to go during the day even if its closed...Me personally, i couldn't see myself being confined to BAF, KAF or Solerno, spend a year and stay sane...

A ball cap... the Bx is hit or miss if you like to wear them and they never had one the entire time I was there. Pillow, sound machine, earplugs, eye mask - I lived in a B-Hut right on the flight line at BAF: 2 F-15s taking off every 4 hours.
