Default Help with rear tyre size

    Hi all,

This might be a common post but i need help in deciding what size rear tyre to put on. I have purchased a 2001 R6 with a 190/55 dunlop rear. The tyre is almost at the limit and i was wondering if its worth going back to the 180. The suspension has been adjusted to accommodate the 190 but i dont track it just road riding and commuting to work.

This is my first 600 so any advice is appreciated.

    Cheers WallyR6

On the street you won't feel much of a difference. 190 vs 180 deals with the width of the tire, not it's profile so the height difference is much much smaller and no suspension adjustment is probably needed (although always a good idea to dial it in for your personal preferences). I say go ahead and try out the 180 just to give yourself a good reference to how different they feel when turning. You'll realize on the street, not much. If you do feel the difference it would probably be attributed to the fact that it is a new tire, which always feel damn good

    oh and

What dzuyd said. If you aren't hitting twisties hard or going to the track, I would stick with 180.......and

yep i`d go back to 180, not much difference on the street riding, but a little more confidence on a track, it can ease some xtreme sliding up.

Even going on the track I don't use a 190 tire. I have plenty of traction with my 180 tires on the track....

Cheers fellas. Have ordered the dunlop 180 which is being fitted today. Looking forward to a ride tomorrow on it as long as the english weather holds off.

You'll gain a few hp as well going to a smaller tire. The difference is probably unnoticeable though.
